As you may remember, McCaffery Interests–owner and manager of Roosevelt Collection–is pursuing a decades long vision of developing an innovative neighborhood on Chicago’s South Shore, known as Chicago Lakeside Development. We’ve brought you up to speed on our international awards and general vision, which include the extension of Lake Shore Drive and the extension of the popular Lakefront Path through our site. Today, we’re happy to report on a few more happenings.
Firstly, Lakeside’s Marketing Center–housed in the former Credit Union for the U.S. Steel Southworks plant–recently received LEED-CI certification at the Silver level by the United States Green Building Council. This historic building was built in 1890 has been retrofitted with Energy Star appliances, energy efficient lighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures and a state-of-the-art rain cistern. The green design not only makes a positive impact on public health and the environment, but it also reduces operating costs, enhances building and organizational marketability and is a significant step towards creating a sustainable community. The Lakeside Marketing Center joins McCaffery Interests’ other LEED certified developments, which include: The Morgan at Loyola Station (LEED-NC silver), Flair Tower (LEED-NC silver) and Lot 24 (LEED-NC silver, pending review). This is also in addition to the LEED-ND pilot precertification of the Lakeside Master Plan.
We’re also proud to report that Chicago Lakeside is in the running to be the host location of the Barack Obama Presidential Library! According to Fox News, Chicago Lakeside is in good company, with University of Chicago and University of Hawaii also pursuing this great testament.
