Earlier this month, South Loop received a highly anticipated new addition to the shopping community: Trader Joe’s. Located on the corner of Roosevelt and Wabash, the specialty grocer opened in the former space of Sam’s Wine and Spirits.
In order to bring a warm sense of community into the new store, artists created murals depicting local South Loop landmarks including architecture, the EL and even a mural of Buckingham Fountain. The store comes with two parking levels, which hold 47 spaces and can be accessed off of Wabash Ave.
Originally founded in 1958 as Pronto Markets then later changed to Trader Joe’s in 1967, the grocer is best known for its healthy, hard-to-find, low-cost products. Oh, and of course its “Two-Buck Chuck” wine!
Putting an emphasis on the meaning of value, Trader Joe’s buys directly from suppliers and keeps costs down for consumers. They keep things simple and focus on the meat and potatoes of the company: great food + great prices = great value.
So South Loopers, try out the new Trader Joe’s location and let us know what you think!
Trader Joe’s is located at 1147 S. Wabash Ave and can be contacted at 312.588.0489. Trading hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven days a week. Parking can be accessed from Wabash Ave.
